Overview

Many public sector services are now provided by independent contractors, such as facilities management firms.

These including property and equipment maintenance, security, catering, cleaning, and 'all-in' packages of such service.

They can also include outsourced professional services, such as payroll, human resources, and ongoing professional development.

The Service Level Agreement (SLA) approach has been widely adopted in recent years in the public sector as a means of monitoring quality, performance and costs.

An ideal SLA works for both parties as it is built on mutual respect and willingness to cooperate in delivering value-for-money services which benefit both partners.

Description

At the end of the course participants will:

Know how a good SLA works
Know about different types of SLAs
Develop SLAs which help to ensure 'buy-in' and practical implementation
Know how SLA's can be more effective by building in Critical Success Factors (CSFs)
Know how to agree Key Performance Indicators (KPI) which are meaningful and are clearly linked to the agreed CSFs
Be able to put review systems in place which facilitate ongoing improvements

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
